On 5th March, 1915, the 2nd Gloucestershire battalion of 81 Brigade, 27th Division left their billets in Westoutre and moved via Dickebusch to trenches in the Bois Confluence sector. On 7th March, the day on which Thomas Millard was killed, the battalion moved back into close support positions at Elenzenwalle, Veerstaat and Dickebusch. During this move they were hit by snipers firing from Piccadilly Farm and three men were killed with another nine wounded. |
